I'm considering using two of these units for close-ups. I have the
off-camera cord #2 for the first flash, how do you connect the other?
The other option is a 580 as the main and a 420 or 430 as the slave.
Challenge there is size and weight.
Not interested in the macro twin flashes.
Thanks.

Not with the OCSC2; that's for one flash, with full functionality,
off-camera. You need the wired multiple flash system. For one flash
on the camera and the other not:
1 TTL Hot Shoe Adapter (mounts in the hot shoe; has a hot shoe on top)
1 Connecting Cord (length depends on how far away the other flash is)
1 Off-Camera Shoe Adapter (provides a hot shoe for the second flash)
If both flash units are off-camera, you need to add a TTL Distributor,
along with a total of three connecting cords (one from the camera to
the distributor, and two to hook the flashes to the distributor).
You lose E-TTL with the wired multiple-flash gear; your flash
units fall back to TTL.

IMHO, I think you would be much better off going wireless, although that
would require more up-market flashes - 420EX/430EX at least. Two possible
approaches - You could go with a 550EX/580EX on-camera (or via off-camera
shoe cord) acting as a master, and a 420EX/430EX as slave. Alternatively,
you could use 2 420EX/430EX as slaves, and an ST-E2 flash transmitter on the
camera as the master (it doesn't have a flash itself, just commands the
others). Wireless would be much more flexible, and you are not limited by
cable lengths - they can work up to 20 metres or so.

$ Wireless would be much more flexible, and you are not limited by
$cable lengths - they can work up to 20 metres or so.
You also get full E-TTL (or E-TTL II, depending on the body in
question) metering, as opposed to plain old TTL with the wired
multiple-flash setup. And you get the ability to set a ratio between
the two flashes, which you can't do with a pair of 220EX units other
than by placing them at different distances from the subject.

Thanks. I've been using the 550 EX on camera/420 EX as slave for years.
This setup works very well, but is heavy and bulky. I sold the 550EX though
and will get the 580, which is somewhat smaller and lighter.
Thanks.
