No, I haven't lost my mind and it is definitely not OT.
I'm trying to make a "lens cap" for the Sigma 14mm wide angle lens with the
integral petal sunshade and I want something that fits over the whole thing
snugly. I think I can take some sheet styrene of .005" or .010" and roll it
around a form and glue it together to make a cylinder and then glue
something across the top to close it up, but I'd much rather take something
already made and just plop it on there.
C'mon, somebody's got to have already done this! What did you use?
TIA
Norm
The AF 14mm Sigma lens 'should' have a metal lens-cap that fits over
the lenshade (fairly snug) __ at least the one I purchased used a
couple of years ago came with one.

Sigma 12-24 has one like that, it's plastic and the center snaps out as
another lens cap for the 24 end.

Alas, I bought mine used and it came with neither front nor rear caps.
I looked at the Sigma site which is pretty primitive and short of calling
for "service", there's no listed way to get "repair parts" there.
Also, I've read at least a few user's comments that the Sigma lens cap
doesn't stay on very well either.

There are some things that would work sold as "Hood Hat" or something like
that. I think OpTech might make these. However, most I have seen are soft
material, not metal or plastic.
