Does anybody has any comment about buying form CCI Camera City Inc?
Tony - 24 Jun 2005 04:32 GMT
I would not give them my credit card numbers. They have been pretty
distasteful for several decades.

If you have money to burn (lose), call them today!

I once tried to buy a lens from them. They had the lowest advertised
price and I thought if I was persistant and careful I could get them to
honor it. I was wrong.

After extensive wrangling on the phone, I eventually got them to ship
at close to the advertised price. I actually RECEIVED (in three
sucessive shipments, with returns inbetween)

1. The wrong lens
2. The right lens, but clearly shopworn, and missing box, caps, and
warranty.
3. An entirely empty shiping box.

I eventually had to have the credit card company do a chargeback, and
never bought from any mailorder company (except occasionally B&H)
again.

Complete crooks.

Another example of why photographers are so so stupid: They belive the
advertisements of equipment prices of mail-order dealers, and refuse to
patronize their local dealers.

WHY ARE YOU SO f.cking STUPID?

Hey, pinhead - I OWNED a camera store back in the 70's and 80's, and
all I heard was how much money everyone saved shopping NYC mail order.
I knew it was impossible, but after I left the business, I decided to
try - just once - to see if they were right. And you know what? As
expected, the dealers (I tried others, as well) were complete scumbags.
It was impossible to actually get those prices, and CCI was the worst.

The jerks who kept waving their Popular Photography ads at me were just
that - jerks.

B&H.
Adorama.

That's where it is real and honest.  BTDT.

KEH & Midwest Photo, where I've gotten my best bargains.
Buydig.com has been getting good reports.
There are other good places.

But if it seems too good to be true, it likely is.

Because, Mike, people have a "hope" that's not always rational.
But I'd rather they have some "hope" of something and be a little naive
than the option of living a hopeless life.

The recognition of one's vulnerability is a valuable commodity.
