The n is still in production (as far as I know) and is 10g heavier...  I
think the n added DoF preview, which I believe the MZ-5 (non-n) lacks.

Are you sure?  I bought mine over a year ago and it was old stock.  A friend
of mine tried buying on about six months ago and could not get it at all.

Peter,

You are correct.  Excepting the *ist (film*ist) there has been no
production of Pentax film SLR bodys for many months now.  But many
dealers will have old stock for years in the future ... but probably
not MZ-S as now almost impossible to find

If the MZ-5n is attractive, I recommend finding a used MZ-3, which has
a very long lasting Copal shutter as that used in Nikon professional
SLR bodys.  The MZ-3 is an excellent body.  It is not easy to find
because most owners are very happy with their MZ-3 body and do not want
to sell it.

Still, some Pentax owners want to change completely to digital, and
will maybe let their MZ-3 go to a good home.  The trick is to find one
of these owners.  One was sold last week on eBay, seller in
Netherlands, Eur. 269,-- I think.

Oops - yes, I should have said still 'in the range' or something like that,
as in that they are  _supposedly_  still available new, but no, they aren't
actually rolling out of the factory gate.  Shame...

Second that.  I bought a (lightly) used MZ-3 about three years ago as a
backup AF body to my MZ-S, and like it a lot.  Very light, logical controls,
easy to use, reliable.

That's a good price, for a body that's going to last a long time.

I did think about the MZ-3 myself but it would have been over £150 more than
the 5n, which was advertised for £220 and I think I bought for £200.  The
shutter gained one extra speed I think.  I don't really think I use the
thing enough to worry about the MZ-3 shutter being a more heavy duty item.

The main difference were that the MZ-5n had an exposure lock button and
electronic depth of field preview, the MZ-5 didn't.

Also, the MZ5n has auto-bracketing capability.
