I have just begun working in digital, althoiugh I have numerous years in 35mm,
and I love it, especially the electronic darkroom. But I digress. I am having
trouble with the eraser tool in Elememnts. The photo is along a Colorado
mountain highway that hass a snow plow guidepost in the middle of the scene,
which I want to erase. When I drag the eraser down tje post, all I get is a
dark line. I know it has something to do with layers, but that's all. Could
anyone take me step-by-step? Thanks.

Do a google search. There are thousands of tutorials.
Generally, Photoshop tutorials can be used with Elements as well.

Well, when you erase it, what is left, nothing. You need to not erase
it, but to replace it. The cloning tool may be the way to go. There are a
number of possible solutions.
