...and from the climbing hit count, enough people have been anxiously
awaiting it.

I had an abyssmal connection tonight and timed out far too often, so
it took quite a while to get it complete at 21 shots (this evening,
anyway).

       Have fun,

Hey Al. Did you get my second send of my submission? I noticed it
wasn't in the gallery the first time, and was worried that the email
problems here were two way, rather than one-way.

Thanks,
B

Way to go Al. Aren't you due for another hurricane soon? It's been 3
days since the last.

Another fabulous collection of shots. A pat on the back to all that
contributed.

I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get a celebrity mandate for the
[SI] birthday bash. Photographers choice it is. Looking forward to a
big turnout on this one.

Well, I seem to have my timing down pat in that respect.

Charley was a non-event in my area. I was out of town on a semi-
business trip when Frances blew through, doing a scattered amount of damage
near my place, nothing that affected me much. During this trip I got word
that my new job had finally come through, which meant moving back to North
Carolina. So my return to Florida was for all of three days.

Most noticeable during this brief peek was that all the billboards
along I-95 had been taken down, a vast improvement to the state, so
hurricanes aren't all bad. But I managed a few minutes from my schedule for
a last visit to my bug-chasing grounds and a quick photo opportunity:

No, it's not mine, it's shamelessly staged, but a bit startling to
find there all the same. It had initially greeted the storm in a marina 20
miles upriver. The water stays just as shallow as it appears for hundreds
of feet out, so getting it home again should prove to be fun...

The drive out was scheduled with Ivan's touchdown, but Ivan veered
off west, and now I'm in NC flipping the bird to tropical storms ;-)

But now you know why I've been pretty quiet on the groups for a
while, too. I know everyone was anxious...

I agree, a good showing. Bit of emphasis on blue and yellow, though,
curiously enough.

Still going to be busy this week, but maybe I'll sneak in with
commentary. You guys have been having too easy a time of it ;-)

Glad to hear all is well.
Good luck in North Carolina.

Me thinks a tow truck will work fine getting that boat back where it
belongs. Whether it floats again is another matter.

Best,

No hurricanes here, but a windy enough day that I kept losing my connection
last night.  After even sending short posts & emails took several attempts,
I gave up on the idea of trying to send my SI pic.  Ho hum - maybe I'll
manage to get it in late later today....

photo gallery at www.wading-in.ne                                       Must
be something in the air.  Lost my email completely. Nutscrape quit. Road
Runner told me something must be broke; and MS tried to sell me something in
Chinese. I guess Gates is going into take-out. Too bad I couldn't understand
the menu.  I can just see an MS job interview. "That's English, right?
Sounds a little like it. OK, You're hired" But the turnout was excellent.
Lotta talent.                          Bob Hickey

Thanks Al.

A big thankyou to Alan Browne for the mandate.  This was the most
challenging mandate (that I've participated in) yet.  I can tell you
all, there's a bunch of *truly* crappy photos on the same roll that my
submission came off! :)

But it's good to be pushed to try something that you don't normally do
unless the opportunity presents itself.  Actually hunting for good
backlit subjects (and working out what source of light) was fun.  I
wanted to do a street shot, with someone going past a shop window at
night, but never really got the chance to get out to the right area of
town to do it.  Maybe I'll have a go for the birthday mandate...

Cheers,
Steve

Nice collection of shots came in from everyone!  I'll wait for the
straglers before commenting.  Ya never know if we'll get some backlit
huricane shots out of Florida.

I ended posting the very first shot I tried as an experiment to check
the lighting ... never got around to shooting the "finals" masked the
way I wanted to do them ...

Cheers,
Alan.
