Just paid $7.65 to develop 24shot roll of film(got 2 sets of prints though).
Up by a buck, WHY?
Prices should be going down because of digital's popularity not up.
Add the price of film, ability to preview and delete bad shots, and I am not
surprised people are going digital.

Smaller scale businesses tend to charge more...not less.
...They still have to pay their overhead and workers, but with less income
from development.
This would logically lead to inflated prices.

From what I've noticed, *EVERYTHING* is going up. Gas, groceries,
household items, and on and on and on. I'm also starting to doubt the
time-honored laws of supply and demand. It seems prices are more tied
to demand even when there's more than enough supply.

It's because the value of the dollar has plummeted on world currency
markets since Dick Cheney became your President. That means anything
imported into the US (including raw materials) has become much more
expensive in US dollar terms.

When the price of gasoline goes up, the price of everything that must be
transported to your location goes up, as does the price of everything that
is made from raw materials that must be transported to the factory where
they are made......This pretty well covers everything.

Note the UK based sarchasm on how expensive US fuel is.
I think we are nearing the 4 pounds a gallon mark.

Also -
* cost of energy goes up
* petrochemical anything goes up
the amount of thingsthat don't need energy or petrochmicals is rather low too.

And...when the dollar is lower, exports from the US go up.
Overseas orders = job support.
It ain't ALL bad...

Gas going up makes everything else go up too. The more transport is involved,
the more it will go up.

The "law" of supply and demand is more a rule of thumb.

Why would digital cause the price to go down???
Unless digital somehow reduces the cost or causes those working in the
industry to chose to reduce their income, I don't see that happening.
I would expect it to go up as inflation goes up. I would also not be
surprised that the price may go up if and when the volume goes down.

The cheapest lab here charges 11 euro for 36 exp.+album+36 exp.free film.The
cost is not a reason to go digital. The digital has many "hidden"extra costs,
although at first sight it seems cheaper.Special inkjet paper;photo-quality
inkjet printer;photo-quality printer inks;memory cards;and of course the
camera itself. And all that relative rif-raf;Photoshop;an expensive computer
etc.etc.
