Hi
just wanting to know if my film will be safe if I import it from the States
to Australia. I mean Velvia is less than half the price in the states so
though as i need some other things i would get some
any problems with the Xray machines
cheers

Yes, go for it.  I got sick of paying the outrageous Oz price for Velvia a
few months ago, so I've done this myself (and will be again soon), and it
was all perfectly OK.  Quick too!

At the risk of labouring the obvious, the more you buy, the better the
per-roll price.  I got 100 rolls last time, so the shipping cost became
(almost) insignificant per roll.  I was able to on-sell a quite a bit of
mine to other members of my camera club - if you have photographer friends
that is a good option.  You can make a little bit on each roll, and end up
getting yours for next to nothing - and everyone is happy!  Incidentally, I
bought the so-called "Imported" product, which is about US$5 cheaper per
20-roll pack, and there's no problem with it. It's exactly the same thing as
the "US" product.

Be aware that you will have to pay GST when it arrives in Oz, plus a bit of
duty and a customs clearance fee.  On my last lot, which was worth about
AU$630, that came to about AU$90 I seem to remember.

Best regards
Steve Marshall

Not likely.

That's hard to say. A box is a box which becomes checked baggage in
the US and is run the most brutal x-ray machines. If a person hand
carries it they can request a hand check in the US though (of course
it varies from airport to airport).

please verify slide film prices in germany. These are usually the lowest I
found in the last two years

As far as I know, it is safe. Mr Posner himself has responded to my
question to this forum about a year ago, and I have since bought film from
B&H without problems. However I do buy slow film and I don't think I would
even know if it was irradiated. It is an experiment without an internal
control.... However even importers for commercial stores face the same
problems, if
they use air mail.
