I made the mistake of listening to NPR coverage of the election speeches.
When Romney had finished speaking, the NPR info babe started to remakr how
there was the lowest level of diverstiy in the audience of the Republican
convention, in 40 years. The fewest African Americans at the delegation in
40 years. Well, gee, I don't really give a care what color the faces are out
there, I watn to know if the candidate will do what he promises. Who really
gives a hoot if there are som epercent of this or that kind of people? I
don't. Just shows where their brains are. f.ck diversity. I want excellence,
and intgrity.

What the candidate will promise, and what the candidate will do if
elected, depends entirely on the interests of his power base.  McCain
did not select Palin because she is the one person most capable of
excellence; he selected Palin because the religious and political
conservatives in the Republican party demanded that there be someone
on the ticket who would represent their interests.  Where's the
integrity of that?

Diversity in support means that a candidate will owe allegiance to a
wider base of the American public.  That, to me, should be the way it
is.

I watched the convention tonight.  I've seen more black faces at a
NASCAR race. Or a dogsled race in Alaska.

Something only a racist like you would notice.

say.

Or something only a racist like yourself would not.

I was listening to the speech while you were scanning the audience to see
how many black people were there. Fact is you're a racist.

I did both.  I didn't intentionally scan for black faces, but it was
very noticeable. It doesn't require any great mental feat to notice
the glaringly obvious.  Noting the disparity is hardly racist.

I also noticed - at both conventions - how many people who were
supposed to be there on a serious mission to support their candidate
for the highest elected office in this country found it appropriate to
wear silly hats.  Am I a hatist?

The case could be made that not noticing is.

So Frank, while you were listening, how many blacks did you hear?

Not using any definition of "racist" that I know of.  There is no
intolerance or hatred associated with what we see and notice.  It is
how we react to what we see that determines if we are, or are not,
racist.

Agreed.  I was just fuckin with Frank.

I see things.  I notice things.  That's what I do.

So Frank, IF you are black and voting for Obama or IF you are white and not
voting for Obama are you a racist?  Ask the tough questions of a black
candidate and disagree with him and you're a racist, do the same with a
woman and you're a sexist...........give me a freaking break.

Seems like I wasn't the only one who noticed.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/04/sherri-shepherd-reacts-to_n_123976.html

Sherri later noted the relative lack of black people in the audience
for Palin's speech, calling it "a good day for black people if you
were at the RNC, beacuse there was one black man in the audience and
they kept showing that one black man."
