Question about lens quality

Hi All,
    I have a Tamron 200-500 zoom lens for my Nikon D300. I am not
an expert with this combination or with photography in general. I feel
that the lens does not focus correctly or it is a little soft. I hope
that someone familiar with this combination would be willing to take a
look at the picture at the link below and give me a second opinion.
    I kept the camera on a tripod and used the self timer to
minimize any camera shake. I used only the central focusing point and
it was aimed at the door closing mechanism (at least, I thought it was).
Everything else is in the EXIF information.

closer is a little soft..  not the best think to focus on.. shiny metal
objects.  Try manually focusing and see what you come up with.   What
image quality setting did you use?  Raw? Fine? etc
