Gush by numbers

Have not been around here for a long time, and the focus of the board seems
to have changed significantly.  This now seems a forum for much gushing
praise of almost an embarassing nature over the works of some posers, and
almost every thread follows a very predictable line.

To save time and bandwidth I propose the following.

Develop a master reference list of stock praise phrases, to be known as
gushes. Each gush will be numbered. Then simply just reply by numbers in one
or two keystrokes   - e.g.

"Oh   .......X..............."   (insert photographers name)

1.  unbelieveably vivid colours
2.  how did you succeed in capturing that amazing detail
3.  another piece of brilliant work
4.  I just love that rich and creamy bokeh
5.  What a camera, what a lens

etc..  etc... you can come up with many other appropriate (or even
inappropriate) phrases.

You get the general idea.

You could take this even further and identify each gusher with a letter - A,
B, C  etc

Then a simple signed response could look something like this :  1, 3, 4,
 - B

Think of the time and effort this would save!
You know it makes sense.
And it's free !    ;-)

You don't have to beat around the bush.  Everyone knows this post is
directed at me.  And it's high time that I realized my gushing is
getting on everyone's nerves.  I have a hard time expressing technical
critique, so I always go with how a pic makes me feel.  I have always
been honest and very genuine.
I think Bret is being far too kind to tell me to stop.  My opinion on
his work has not changed one bit.  I still feel he is the best
photographer I have ever seen.  His work never ceases to amaze me.  I
check all kinds of websites and view thousands of pics per week.  So I
can honestly say that I do know what I'm talking about when I critique
on his work.

For those adopting the new shorthand this response will be called
"H-1."

Personally, Helen, I think you might have a tendency to exaggerate my
skills, but what the Hell do I know?  I can only continue to aspire to
be as great as you think I am.  And with my new weapon (thanks to
you!) I will hopefully continue to improve.

I'm an extreme person.  I'm never just "luke warm".  Your work has
inspired me greatly.
I'm very happy you are enjoying your 40D.

Naw, Helen. He was aiming right at you. Maybe he is trying to save you
time with your posts?? Nope? Didn't think so.

Dry and technical critiques may give one the information on what is
the opinion of the viewer. BORING! I would rather have someone give a
critique from the heart and soul. Tell me what moves you about the
image. Why does it make you happy. Why does it make you sick to your
stomach. Some tech info is okay. But with out feeling, the information
is just that and that I can get the info from a tech. book.

So keep posting Helen your "gushing" opinions over anyone
photographs. Bret isn't the only one you have given praise too. If
more posted their images, from what ever web site, they too would get
"gushed" opinions. It just seems that Bret gets all of them because he
produces a lot more than anyone else.

Draco

Enjoy today. Tomorrow is promised to no one.

Don't take me too seriously Helen.  You seem a nice person on this board and
this is just a good-natured joke ;-)

Who could top you?!  I'm serious!
A girl I went to school with.  We met in grade 3 and remained friends
for years.  She was like a sister to me.  I will miss her very much.

Helen... Death is a part of life's cycle. Birth, life, death. You can't have
one without all three.

As sorrowful as you may feel now, until you actually come to grips with the
fact we are all in that cycle and must all, one day die... You will always
feel saddened with ever increasing frequency as those around you, less able
to sustain life begin to die.

Plenty of culture's see death as the start of a new journey. The beginning
of something better or the end of suffering. I suggest you consider your
friend has gone not to her maker but to a better place where the pain of
life becomes irrelevant and where she may at last, rest in peace.

Sorry if it sounds gushy but this is how I handle the passing away of those
I cherished and thought would out live me.

There must be a blue moon, because I do agree with you Douglas.  Death
is part of the cycle of life.  But no matter how much you think you
are prepared for it, it still does not lessen the pain when someone
close dies.  I knew my mother and father were dying, and I mentally
prepared for the devastating hurt that is bound to come.  But it still
didn't lessen the pain when it did.  I was an adult yet I still felt
orphaned when my beloved mother passed away 2 years ago.
When someone dies suddenly at a young age, like my friend, it is not
only pain but shock.  The feeling of loss is devastating. Things go
through your mind like "I wish I would have said this to her, and I
hope she knew she was my dear friend."
Time does heal, and for me it takes a long time.
Thanks Douglas for taking the time to console.

Well, at my age, (72) I've lost quite a few friends....Most of them (during
the last 20 years) because of drugs and/or alcohol. But now, I am starting
to lose them just from natural causes. (old age)

I don't, usually. But I do admire her straight-up honesty, and the
strength she shows in every exchange.

The same strength she'll draw upon to come through the recent loss of
her friend. I'm sure her friend would be proud of her.

Only two of her numerous positive qualities, I can assure you.
I would list "Generosity" near the top as well.

Can we have a generousity pissing competition please? I fed up with all
these nearly good pictures from nearly good cameras. You really ought to
swap the old 20D for a new Panasonic, you know.
