I had hoped to catch this one as it emerged from the Chrysalis in the
garden, a half an hour earlier there was no sign of it emerging. Then
half an hour later it was out and sunning itself to dry out and get
ready to fly. I cheated and moved it from the power cord where the
chrysalis had been over to a rose buch that offered it more protection
(and a more photogenic background) from the wind.

Lovely shot of a newborn Monarch.  The colors are beautiful.

Looks like Bret has a competitor.

The more the merrier!
That is a very nice shot.  Very rare to see a butterfly with perfect
wings that have yet to be tattered and shredded.

It's easy when the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis in your backyard
and has yet to spread its wings to fly.
Most of the other butterflies I see are on my radiator....
Reminds me of the DDT days in the 70's while at high school, if someone
said "Hey look a bird" you immediately looked at the ground.

NO WAY!
I'm a notorious gusher, but I'm a faithful one!

Not even close.
Bret pulls of more shots like this in a week than I could do in a year.
Also, Bret has to find his subject. This one was dumped in my lap in a
situation where I had almost total control.

Thanks for the compliment though.

I'm a little late to his thread, but nice shot!

I don't have any baby Monarchs, but I've found a field in which to
chase the adults over the past couple weeks.
