OK sports fans, here's a trivia Q. for ya.

Which one of these two players keeps a blow up doll in his locker?

Is it?

A.  http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/83962236

or

B.  http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/83965174

LOL.

I'd have to say A, because B seems more likely to *be* a blow up
doll.

LOL!
I don't think so.  "A" is a pretty boy and my senses tell me he can
get any girl he wants.........and probably does.

LOL.  Actually he's not my type.  I know who my dream man is and this
guy isn't even close.  I just have a feeling about him.
I'll check out your work while I'm here.

Thanks for looking Helen, but I'm very much a novice at
photography.  Been lurking mostly, only just getting the courage
to post some pics to get feedback/critiques.

You have a great attitude.  Some take critique poorly and refuse to
learn from it.  You're heading in the right direction.  Keep shooting
so you can develop that "eye" that is so vital to all photographers.

This is funny; looking at the thumbnails, I thought the 'bokeh flower'
on the left had a better composition (the fully saturated one). In
retrospect, they are both fine, nice shot, interesting study. It's funny
because I was going to comment that some of the compositions are perhaps
too centered, then I thought I was looking at two different
framings/crops of the same scene but it's just the desaturation of the
background. A good lesson there about the power of color.

I think I do like the fully saturated version better because the orange
in the upper-right gives the composition a little more life. That is in
spite of the desaturated one being 'obviously' less centered. The orange
streak also kind of emanates from the smaller flower in an arc across
the frame which ties things together better.

Thanks for sharing!

I'm trying not to crop the images too much so that when people
comment on composition etc, they see what was out of the camera,
not something else.  I won't learn otherwise.

I liked the fully saturated one too.  The desat one, and even the
b&w one were just an experiment because a friend thought it may
look better, making the flower pop out more.

Your critique sounds a lot more detailed artisticly than I have
heard from others.  Don't know if that's the right term, but hope
you know what I mean.  I appreciate it.

I see some nice shots.  My fave is the mother kanagroo with baby.
What camera are you using?  Point and shoot?

Canon 30D with some lenses that were probably way too expensive
for someone with my current skill level but my girlfriend and I
both enjoy taking photos, did a beginner SLR course, and are now
trying to apply it.

Ouch!

Actually some of the photos on that gallery were p&s (the
"compact bee" one) with my Ixus55, the netball ones of me were
taken by Kristy with her 350D (Rebel in the US I believe) and kit
lenses, and the others are mine.  Hopefully the EXIF data is in
tact for all of them.

"Actually some of the photos on that gallery were p&s (the

That's the pic I was referring to, the "compact bee" one.  I saw the
make of the camera at the bottom and thought that's what you were
using for all of them.  A 30D is an excellent camera.

They both do. How else can they keep their "edge" for the ball game.

Great shots though. Keep at it. They might hire you to do their
bubblegum cards.

Helen: Don't let your dream man hear you talking about blow up dolls.
Might get the wrong idea. ;-)

Troy: Nice images. Lurked a bit on your posting site. Good captions,
good images and got a good laugh to boot. Keep up the work.
