There are several sects that dress in plain clothing. They're not all
"Amish".

Most are not as strict as the Amish, although the Amish are rather more
tolerant than most people realize of their teenagers "sewing wild oats".
But as they reach young adult-hood, they're expected to either put away
childish things or leave the community.

Sewing wild oats is much more difficult than sowing 'em. But I guess we
repe what we sew....

Aha! I thought that looked funny myself, but couldn't figure out why.
But, I knew I could count on someone to tell me what it was. Thanks.

The Amish won't mind if they sew them, as long as they don't use a sewing
machine.......

You can use a sewing machine, as long as it's a treadle type machine!
Near my old home town in central PA, there is a small Amish village. The
phone company put a phone booth in the center of the village. The unusual
thing about it is the extra-loud bell they installed on the outside of the
booth. I guess they didn't want the Amish to miss out on telemarketer calls!
