Sigma 80-400 lens

Has anyone used this stabilized lens, and if so what is your impression of
image quality, build quality and
overall value.

Sorry but I've never used any Sigma lenses.  But from what I have
heard from others who have used them, they were not happy with the
results.  IMHO, may I suggest the Canon 400.  It is certainly the best
long lens for the buck, particularly if you are shooting birds and
small animals.

I haven't used the 80-400mm but love my Sigma 10-20mm. I've also heard
from plenty of other accomplished photographers who love Sigma
lenses.

I have their APO 300 2.8, and it's a damn good lens.
