Great shot. The lighting makes it perfect.

Five stars!

The back/side lighting really makes this shot come alive.  Great shot.

Yeah, nice one :)

It's a very nice image, but in my no-doubt-flawed (and possibly deeply-
biased - Hi Douglas!) opinion, I think more diffuse  front lighting
(was it flash? - see below) would have helped.  And am I the only one
who thinks Chick 3 is well beyond the depth of field?

>From a highly technical point of view, I'm puzzled by how one can get
single eye highlights in C2 and C3, and then three in C1.
Intriguing...

Maybe not, but you might be the only one that cares! ;)
Personally, my photography improved when I stopped worrying about the
technical aspects of images so much, and started to concentrate on the
artistic side a bit more.
Very few pictures are technically perfect, but it doesn't stop them from
being great images.
As for the highlights in the chicks eyes, could it be because the
angle/position is slightly different? or have they been added to chick 2 & 3
? then again does it really matter?  it's the final result and not the
process of getting there that matters to me.

hey that was a CHEEP shot.  I'm sure he meant to do that.
Or else his clone tool has a hiccup.

Great shot Douglas. The back lighting brings the image off the BG with
a detail that would have been lost otherwise. I do notice that chick 3
(going from left to right) seems a bit soft. But with the shallow DOF
you took this shot in...it is understandable and forgivable.
Using the flash for front fill was a great way to light up the
shadows without blowing the backlighted feathers. Did you use one or
two flashes? Maybe a reflector as well. Noticing a couple of catch
lights in the eyes is reason I'm asking. Even if you use PS to help
"tweek" the image, it doesn't take away the power of the image any.

God job. Keep at it Douglas. I like what I have been seeing from
you lately.

Getting even isn't good enough.

Doing better does.

Hrmmmm
It's not Douglas, Draco. I'm Julian, despite what the drones keep going
on about. Believe it or not, it's your choice but if you ever get into
this thing you'll see Doug is probably the most misunderstood and
persecuted newsgroup contributor I have ever come across. He deserves
none of it.

He might be a cantankerous bloke but he has pioneered interpolation of
digital images and run a sucessful string of Photo labs for more years
than I have been on this planet. You simply don't get to do that in a
country with a population the size of New York city, by being dishonest.

Doug took the chick picture quite some time ago for a financial advisors
Advertisement. Something about nest eggs. I got it out of his library to
show a client and figured it would make an interesting pic for
discussion without the drones chiming in. I've posted another discussion
pic I took myself in a post earlier this evening.

The chicks were shot in Doug's old Mt Gravatt studio, (now a block of
rental units for students). He used no less than 4 studio flashes and a
simple slave flash with a white bag over it to break the glare.

I'm running the print centres while he's away.  He's got a female
running the new studio. I'm printing her wedding from last saturday now
and it looks pretty good too. Tt's all wedding stuff and not something I
can show you since the drones started stealing images of Doug's web
sites.

I might use some of my own pictures or I might use some from Doug when
the mail arrives with his backup discs, for his "Picture for the day"
which I'm struggling to keep alive.

I swear I don't know where the guy gets his energy from. He's over 60
and running rings around me at handling the workloads. I've been on the
job since 6:30 this morning and don't look like finishing before 9:00
tonight. He used to make it look so easy.

Where are these print centers and studio?  Do they have a name and a
physical address?  I think I can send some business your way from some
friends I know that live close by.

Post the address so they can give you the business.

You want to be careful someone doesn't give you the business mate.
