This absolutely cries out for that little bit of web to be in focus. In all other ways, a very nice shot with beautiful colours and nice compsoition, but that fuzzy bit of web kills it for me, sorry.
Keep up the posting though!

Very soft BG allows subject to leap up at viewer. Hard to do hand held and you almost pulled it off. Could quite figure out where your focas was. It seemed to be some where in between the flower and the rear "berry". Missing both. Not by much, just enough to make both a little soft. If you are able to reshoot this, use a tripod and a smaller aperture, just slightly smaller, and go for it. What type of "berry" and flower it it? Just wondering.
Keep shooting.

Getting even isn't good enough.
Doing better does.

Just wondering. Some kind of what we call Blue Witch in CA, Solanum spp. related to tomatoes.
I really like the composition!
The focus is within a hair of being on the yellow part of the flower which would have been perfect. Stopping down a little... maybe... or another technique is to focus by rocking in & out & shoot several then choose the best or merge two or more together. This way you still get the mood & soft background but can add DOF in key places as desired. Below is an example where just two leaves pushed into the foreground so I merged those in from a separate shot. If you click the image for a full pixel crop you can see a little ghost from imperfect merging with a soft edged eraser: <http://www.edgehill.net/1/?SC=go.php&DIR=California/Bay-Area/San-Francisco/Natur al-Areas/mount-davidson/2007-06-19&PG=1&PIC=0>

I think I'll stop by again after work on Friday and try to get some shots of these little beans. I'll leave the tripod at home--I'm really trying to practice my "au naturel" skills--and see what I can do. I find being conscious of how I move, in other words 'carefully rocking', is the best technique.
3 cemetaries between work & home, a super-long 15-minute drive. 2 of them, including the beanie one, are old... some graves back to early 1800s, maybe some 1700s if I look hard.
Thanks for looking! I'll post more when I get some spot-on.

I was literally getting into my car after finishing an hour at my favorite "haunt", a nice old cemetary, when I noticed them growing up through a shrub. I assume they're a weed, apparently a kind of vine.
Here's one more view, maybe someone else recognizes it?

Here's two of our local species: <http://www.edgehill.net/1/?SC=go.php&DIR=California/Bay-Area/Peninsula&PG=1&PIC=2> <http://www.edgehill.net/1/?SC=go.php&DIR=California/Bay-Area/Peninsula/sweeney-r idge&PG=2&PIC=9>

Here's what we have on the East coast. I believe this species is very poisonous.

My particular one doesn't seem too healthy, not sure what it needs to thrive. Now I know not to eat it. :) Thanks!

Alan Browne - 23 Jun 2007 19:33 GMT > http://www.pbase.com/willarojo/image/80844348 The colors are wonderful if a bit dark. Great complements. The focus "attention" getter is ambiguous making the image a bit pointless seeming. As another poster mentioned, the white bit of web, in focus, would have anchored the image somewhat.
One typical cheat / cliché would be to spray a little mist on the plant to pop it a bit.
Cheers, Alan

I'll see if I can do something in PSE (2.0, no laughing!) to bring up the web. All of these so far have been very quick & dirty RAW conversions, trying for speed of shooting and processing. Which is such a pleasant change from the workflow of shooting and scanning slide film.
I'll remember that cheat... I love finding dew- or rain-covered objects, especially plants/flowers, but I never thought to make it rain. :) Thanks!
