I would like to slave 285's with Wein peanuts with my Digital Rebel but the
ETTL is setting off the flashes prior to image capture.
How can I do this wirelessly.
Do I need Wizards (or something similar)? I have also tries Canon's infrared
transmitter with no luck.
Cheers

You may want to ask this in one of the digital groups, they may know
more on the subject. But there are a few digiratti hanging out here.

Have you got the built in flash set for red-eye reduction? Sounds like
the pre-flash is setting off the slaves. I think you can turn the
red-eye reduction pre-flash off.

Yes, red-eye is off. Red-eye preflash is not setting off the slaves.
I believe the ETTL is to blame.
Camera is set to manual (M), not P for professional.
Anyone know how to turn this off with the orignal DSLP Rebel XT?
Thanks

Not being a canonista, I can't give you advice on how to configure your
equipment. It should be somewhere in the user's guide.
But it sounds like you might be able to do what you want with wireless
radio slaves.
Even the $20 ebay ones should work.

If near instantaneous snapping is not important, you could try delayed
action. From dim memory I think the ETTL pre-flash goes off when the button
is pressed and you then have a short time in which to switch on your
slaves - if you're lucky!
I got involved in this 11 years ago after my EOS 50E and 380EX mis-behaved
big time, and I needed to use a flash meter to check what was going on.

Use a cheap, non-dedicated flash on the hotshoe (i.e., non-ETTL). Make
sure the voltage does not exceed your camera's limit.
