Annika1980 - 20 Nov 2006 14:18 GMT > Hello, > > Another b&w street photography as the picture of > the week, here > > http://www.monochromatique.com/photosemaine/ Once again you showcase people viewing other people's work. I'd like to see more of your own work, rather than advertisements showing the work of others. BTW, is it just me or does the color seem a bit subdued in this one?
Here's your assignment for next week. Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower and get a pic. It might even make a great entry for the current Shoot-In mandate, "Tripod Holes."
helensilverburg@hotmail.com - 20 Nov 2006 14:50 GMT > > Hello, > > [quoted text clipped - 12 lines] > It might even make a great entry for the current Shoot-In mandate, > "Tripod Holes." Great idea, Bret!! Go for it Daniel!! What a perfect entry that would be for the current mandate: "Tripod Holes"! Hope to see your work there. Helen

You know what ? But everything in the street is not my work. Trees, buildings, cars, and much more.
Can I shoot them or not ? Please answer...

> http://www.monochromatique.com/ombre/ What a mess! That's the kind of artsy-fartsy crap I'd like to see you move away from. You say that you takes pics of what you like. Good for you, if that's true. What I see, however, is your constant attempt to take the type of pics that you think look "artsy." There is nothing artistic about taking pics of shadows on a wall. Anyone can take pics of shadows; it takes no talent. See? http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/69662743
Maybe it's just me, but I can't understand anyone wanting to view those pics for more than 2 seconds. I'll admit, I have a bias against most B/W pics. I like B/W in some instances, however, mainly portraits. Personally, I see the world in glorious color and prefer most of my pics that way. But that's just me.
Here is my philosophy on photography: I look at all the beauty in the world and make a feeble attempt to capture some of it to share with others. I know that no photo can capture the real beauty of a scene or place, but the joy comes from the attempt.
I'm not sure what your photo philosophy is. You live in Paris, which by all accounts is a beautiful city (I've never been there). But the pics you show us look like they were taken in WWII Berlin .... dark, gloomy images that make me depressed. Your color photo of the rose was a welcome change up from what you normally exhibit. I'd like to see more pics like that, photos that show Paris as a beautiful place, not a monochrome representation of some Parisian slum or another boring protest in the streets.
> > Here's your assignment for next week. Go to the top of the Eiffel > > Tower and get a pic. > > Next week, the picture is ready. Do it yourself. I wish! C'mon Daniel, give us what we want! Go up there at sunset one evening with some color film. You know you can do it.

I think of the Eiffel tower as a huge tripod.....I bet you can get a fantastic picture of Paris from the top of that baby......

Oh yeah!! Bret's idea is great! It would fit right into the Mandate "Tripod Holes". Paris has hundreds of famous places. I could only imagine the great shots Daniel would take.
Draco - 21 Nov 2006 15:44 GMT > >> http://www.monochromatique.com/photosemaine/ > > Once again you showcase people viewing other people's work. Daniel, I think I can see were Bret is trying to lead you. See if you can find one of his postings. It will lead you to his images. Some of which are wonderful and some not. The two of you are so far different in content of images. But, so close in showing your feelings. The two of you may never agree on how to capture a moment in time. But bringing emotion to your photographs, you both do a great job.

We are alike in that respect. I've described my philosophy of taking pics. I'd like to hear Daniel's (or anyone else's). Why do you take pics?

I know that no photo can capture the real beauty of a scene or >place, but the joy comes from the attempt. That is a wonderful philosophy on photography. The joy truly does come from the attempt. My philosophy is basically the same. The only time I use b&w is when I want to shoot graphic portraits, and to make an attempt at the photojournalistic side of photography. I've taken pics of flowers in b&w, some where not bad, but color is far better when it comes to flowers and nature. Thanks to a superb teacher/friend, I don't have to worry about the technical stuff that use to have me stumped. Helen

I'd like to hear Daniel's > (or anyone else's). > Why do you take pics? You said it there yourself,"...pics that he likes..." You both are wonderful photographers. One works in color and nature, one works in Black & white and in the city. You both have your own view and express it through your photography.
Brett, you are a nature boy(no disrespect there) and are capturing the scenes of nature that Daniel may never get a chance to see(or me).
Daniel you are a city boy(again no disrespect) and you are showing us your scenes that some of us don't or will never see.
I applaud both your efforts. I also do 90% of my photography is Black & White. From portraits to landscapes. Most of my learning was on the job shooting for news services. So as for art I am lacking. But some folks like what I do and I like what I do.
SO that is my two cents. Know you two can get back to bitching.

Bret, what are you looking at??? Good idea of using the Eifle Tower. How about man hole covers or some grating? Good luck with the project and keep at it.

Funny, for sure... :) Some of your pics feature advertisements or people admiring the work of others. A few of them have you in the background photographing a photographer while he takes pics. What if YOU were that photographer? That's the pic I want to see. Here are some examples, just from your POTW gallery:

Don't be such a Sensitive Sally. You're free to take pics of anything you like, and I'm free to rip on them. I wasn't implying that you were trying to capitalize on the work of others. I simply noted a theme I've picked up from your pics. When I see one of your pics of people studying an advertisement, I just don't "get it." To me, it's just people studying an advertisement. And the ones with just the advertisement... what's up with that? Why not just go down to the art gallery and take some photos of the famous paintings?
The worst pics are the ones of the other photographers doing a shoot. It's like, "Hey, I was walking through town and saw a photographer taking pics so I took a picture of him!" Call me when YOU are the one taking the pics of the models. Or buy a decent telephoto and take some shots of the models yourself. This might not go over too well with the professional photographer who hired the models, however. So you'll probably wanna keep your distance ... something around 400mm seems about right. Chicks dig the big glass.

BULLSHIT! It's mandatory practice for putting together tutorials. This shot is now considered the standard of what *NOT* to do in photography. One small mistake like this will follow you around for life.
