Why bother resampling? Keep the number of pix the same,
just drop the ppi to 300. This will increase the size of the
output print by 1% - crop it back down if need be.

In many of these cases, cropping is not an option.

IMHO, this is a perfectly good newsgroup for this kind of
question......Many/most of us here digitize our photos, either directly, or
after the fact with scanning equipment, so these kinds of digital conversion
questions are of interest to us. However, you could also cross-post to the
digital group to achieve a wider range of answers......
