Hi;
I am new to this group. I have an old Konica T4 35mm SLR.
I want to get a telephoto lens.
I see a lot of lenses for sale on line and e-bay but it is hard to
tell if they fit. Can anyone tell me what lenses fit this camera.
I know it is a twistlock mount but none of the lenses for sale
say they fit a T4.
Is there a common name for the T4 type of mount,
or is it special to the T4?
Is the lens mount compatible with any other well known camera?
Do lenses from a Canon AE-1 fit this camera?
How about Nikon? What Models?
I currently have a Tamron 85-210 zoom for this camera but I would like
to find a more powerful lens, something like 400mm or 500mm.
I really don't want to go to a retail camera store to look at lenses
because I wil probably get a sales pitch to upgrade my camera
and spend big $$$.
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

The old Konica cameras are crap. Throw it away.

I don't know much about the cameras, but the lenses (Konica mount - not
compatible with other brands) are supposed to be very good.
I have a Koni-Omega 6x7 press camera whose lens is truly outstanding.
You might want to check the effective condition of your camera (and
maybe Google for information on its reliability) before investing too
much in lenses.
All film gear has gotten quite affordable.
BTW: Welcome back UC!

Yes, in the late 1960's. I used to work in a camera shop. They were
crappy. Alpa, now THERE was a camera!

In the late 70's I used to own a camera shop, and had pretty good
results overall from Konica equipment. The lenses were fine; as I
recall the contrast tended to be a bit lower, on average, than other
brands. The cameras were mechanically complex and were fiddly to
repair. Fortunately they didn't need it often.
My favorite was the original Autoreflex, which was (as far as I know)
the only camera ever to switch between half and full frame exposures in
mid-roll. Never had any problems with mine, either.
This all refers to models up to about the Autoreflex T3. The TC, and
all the later plastic-bodied models got progressively worse. There was
a model with a built-in winder who's name I've repressed as a traumatic
memory. I don't think ANY of them worked for more than a few months.
Alpa, now - you either "get' the Alpa, or you don't. I'm one of the
former, and still occasionally drag out my 10D and fondle it...

Any of the AR series mounts will work. There was a very
early variant of this but they are extremely rare. The long
Hexanons (over 300mm) are very hard to find and also very
pricey. Vivitar, Sigma and Soligor made 400's with full
auto coupling and these go through the auction site at very
low prices. The old pre-set manual lenses with many brand
names attached (Spiratone, Cambron, etc) will attach but not
function with the auto diaphram and require stop down metering.
If you don't already own shorter lenses for the camera,
watch for the 50/1.7 and 40/1.8 as they're some of the
sharpest lenses ever produced and sell for garage sale
prices these days. Check out the KonicaSLR group list on
Yahoo as it's filled with excellent Konica info and
friendly, knowledgeable people.
