I have had good luck in the past sending or taking several pieces of Nikon
gear and others like Pentax and Minolta to Huron Camera in Dexter, Mich.,
just west of Ann Arbor. A charming little town, I might add, and a very
nice, short drive from Ann Arbor.
For years, the photo staff of the Toledo Blade took its Nikon gear there for
repairs and maintenance. They had a good group of technicians. That said, I
haven't been there for a  few years, but was there at that time to browse a
rather fine assortment of used gear. Give them a call and ask if they still
have repair folks on staff.
