Hi,

I am looking to get a new camera and have narrowed my selection between
these 2. The specs are quite similar and price too with the Nikon costing
around £15 more than the sony. Was just wondering what you guys thought is
the better of the 2 perhaps someone has owned both ?!.

Or maybe there is another camera of similar spec which you would choose
instead of either of these. My requirements are 7+MP,. Lithium rechargeable,
quality picture.

Any help appreciated.

I have had a sony p200 for almost 3 months now I love it.  There are plenty
of manual controls for me.  It is very fast, no shutter lag, and the battery
life is very good too.  Color and saturation are accurate and not
overbearing like some of the older sony's.  I used to be able to tell an
older sony camera took the picture by the color contrast and over saturation
especially reds.  The movie mode is surprisingly good as well.  I used to
have a canon s400 and I loved that camera but the sony is simply the best
point and shoot I have used.  Some people have complained about the blurry
pictures I have not seen it but then again I use the manual setting modes
more than the auto settings.  I have heard that the blur comes when shot
with auto mode.  I do know that at full zoom with smart zoom enabled you
have to have a very steady hand or it does blur.  I got mine at pricegrabber
3 months ago for $315 shipped.  I have not tried the 7900 though I am sure
it is a very good camera as well.

I have had the P200 since February and agree with the previous poster.
Additionally, the P200 has a very well protected LCD screen.  You could
easily carry it in a pocket and not have to worry about cracking the LCD
screen.  It has some very handy features/manual controls and the flash
syncs up to 1/1,000th second which makes for some interesting pictures.
It also has a 30 second maximum shutter speed that allows for some
great low ISO night shots.  It is a great little camera.

Hi,

I have sony dscp200 for the last 6months. Its excellent when shot
outdoors. But i have been facing peculiar problem: when i take pictures
in a room where there is bulb light or fluoroscent light, the color of
the pictures is orange or very dark-i have tried both auto and manual
settings. May be Bojangles can answer this and I could be benefitted.
any help is appreciated.

If you aren't using the flash then you need to set the white balance for
the lighting source.  If you have a combination of florescent and
incandescent then you might not be able to get the correct white balance
for the entire area in the photo.  Another option is to use the flash
for these shots and the "auto" or "flash" white balance settings.
