    Just picked one up monday.
So far, I'm impressed!  This one replaced my tired Fuji S5000
That stabilized 12X lens is really nice!  Along with the 2.5" LCD
screen for reviewing.

Anyone else using a Sony DSC H1?

Out of curiosity I just read up on the H1.  Personally, I am very fond
of Sony products.  However, I couldn't help noticing the similarities
between the H1 and the Panasonic FZ-20.

Quicky conclusions:

H1:     Uses AA batteries - big plus
Numerically, the digital zoom is better than the FZ-20
Internal memory - can be a savior
    It's a Sony - reputation DOES matter

FZ-20:     Leica-panache lens
Available in black - not that big a deal
Far better fine-tuning of white balance
Far better fine tuning of flash
Preview - optional icons in margin leaving image unobstructed
Preview option grid to aid composition - bit gimmicky
    Manual Focus Option
    Proprietary battery - big minus

Bottom Line:  These two are SO similar as to be nearly identical.  Seems
that Sony knows a good design when they see it - and they're not beyond
the 'sincerest form of flattery'...

However, this is just my opinion.

Yeah, I wasn't to keen on the memory stick, but my printer had a
multiport to read them, and I carry one of those zillion and one
readers for my laptop.  The sandisk memory sticks are a bit "cheaper"
than the OEM sony ones, but, they sure are more expensive than
SD or CF.

I looked at the FZ20 for a long time, then the H1 came out.  The main
reason I didn't get the FZ20 was the proprietary battery pack.  I'd
rather have the flexibility of the AA batteries.  MUCH more
economical.  The manual focus wouldn't  have been that big of a deal
for me on the FZ20, nor the hot shoe.  I use to use a ring flash on my
35mm camera to take macros of scale plastic models I use to build, but
heck, when I reached the age of 45, my eyes suffered from the "arms
too short" syndrome (bifocal glasses).  I quit building them anyway
about 94......the time the internet exploded.  The web, computers,
digital photography restoration have become my "hobby" now.
I've taken a few pics with the H1, and boy that stabilized lens sure
is a lot of fun.  I guess my next "toy" will be the 1.7X telephoto
attachment.  I'd like to go out to the country and get away from the
city lights and snap a few full moon pics.

One reason I've been looking around for the 1.7X lens....hopefully
the price will drop just a bit  :)
