Olympus c-370  battery life?

I'm a bit of a newbie to digital cameras but I did a bit of searchign and
settled for the Olympus C-370, it arrived recently and I'm impressed, great
camera, good quality pics, easy to use etc.

Just one thing is niggling me:  The battery life.   After just a few hours
playing with it, the supplied batteries ran out.   So I replaced with a
couple of new duracell's and they too were drained empty within a few hours
use.

Is this normal for digital cameras?  Is it the trade-off you make against
old-style cameras (instead of buying films, you have to buy batteries all
the time!)

No, You don't have to buy lots of batteries, just buy the correct ones...

I'm not familiar with the C370, but if it can take Duracell's it probably
uses AA batteries. You should be using NIMH or Lithium Rechargeable
batteries.

I have a couple of Olympus C series cameras. I bought a couple of sets of
Maha NIMH's for each camera and a good charger.  A set of these batteries
can be used for many years before they need replacing.  (I bought mine in
2000 and have recently bought some replacements)

Use NiMH rechargeables, they will last a lot longer! I recommend
getting 2 sets and a (fast) 3-4 hour charger that is somewhat
"clever" in the way it charges the NiMH cells in seperate channels
and only trickle-charge them after they're done recharing.

You're lucky if they last that long. In my case (on Oly C300) supplied
batteries went dead after some 20 shots.
You must use NiMH rechargeables. They (again on C300) lasted about 170 shots
mixed with flash and without it.But at that times they were 1700 mAh, while
now you can get 2300 or 2500 mAh ones.
