Complaint about digital cameras

High dudgeon on:

I have in the past owned an Olympus C3000Z and now own an Olympus C8080.

Is it just my big ham fisted paws or are others bothered by the easiness of
inadvertently pressing one or more of those tiny little buttons located
EVERYWHERE on the camera body while trying to compose and shoot a pic?

I realize digital is a whole different critter from 35mm insofar as
technology, but I could compose and shoot much more easily and faster with a
Minolta SRT-101, Maxxum, XL700 or my trusty OM2.

I been shooting since I got my first 35mm at the Danang exchange in '67.  A
Petri rangefinder that I still lug about as a last ditch backup.

Any comments or commiserations appreciated.

High dudgeon off:

Thanks.

I agree the smaller lighter digital cameras are harder to hold and to keep
steady than the old 35mm cameras.

And big hands do not help!

A tripod is a great help, or maybe a monopod.

I think he was referring to the tendency of hitting buttons inadvertantly.
And thereby accidentally ruining a shot.  Not camera shake.

He was, but putting the camera on a steady mount, also makes it easier to
not hit the wrong buttons.

Obviously, another button is needed! The added button executes the command
called for by the first button, and executes the user when the first button
was pressed at an inappropriate time!

LOL - let's here it for more buttons.  And as densely packed as possible.

Sorry, just could not resist, since I also have an 8080. The buttons are
quite small, and in some unusual places.

(O;  - but it's a good camera....!

I agree, but compared to lots of menu presses to find a function?  I
think there is a happy medium somewhere, and Oly haven't found it.  The
Sony F828 makes a pretty good attempt at it, although I find I 'hunt'
for the buttons on the side of the lens.  I really like the little
joystick on the 828 though - that and a good menu system gives it a
great start.

(I bought the 8080 instead because I didn't care much for the purple
fringes on silhouettes, in case you are wondering - but I still get to
use the 828 at work..  Wish I could have the Oly lens on the 828's
body..)
